On August 12, a grand completion ceremony for the Cocody Bridge was held in Abidjan. Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, Prime Minister Patrick Achi, and other figures from the Ivorian government, representatives from the Islamic Development Bank, as well as diplomats from various countries in Côte d'Ivoire, attended the event. Hundreds of individuals from various sectors came together to witness the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the largest cable-stayed bridge in West Africa.
In his address, President Ouattara praised the Cocody Bridge as a milestone in Abidjan's path towards urban modernization. He emphasized that the bridge will effectively alleviate the traffic congestion in the city and play a crucial role in improving people's livelihood.
At the ceremony, the Cocody Bridge was officially named the "Alassane Ouattara Bridge" in honor of the current president.
Spanning the Cocody Bay, the bridge connects the administrative center to the east and the Cocody embassy area to the west. The project's mainline measures 1.63 kilometers in total, with the main bridge spanning 630 meters and the main span reaching 200 meters.
This bridge seamlessly integrates transportation and landscape, showcasing a remarkable design and construction complexity. Notably, the embedded luminous cables and high-strength white concrete main towers are pioneering applications on a global scale.
The project created approximately 3,000 job opportunities for the local community, stimulating local economic growth.
Following its opening, the bridge is expected to accommodate over 50,000 vehicles daily.
