Recently, China Construction Industry Association announced the winner list of the 2022 Luban Prize, which is the highest honor for project quality in China's construction industry. The Nairobi-Malaba Railway (Phase I), constructed by CRBC, a subsidiary of CCCC, was awarded the Luban Award in the category for overseas project.
As an extension of the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway, the Nairobi-Malaba Railway is an important part of the development of the standard gauge railway in Kenya, which is built with Chinese standards. The main line of the Nairobi-Malaba Railway is 487.5 kilometers long and is planned to be constructed in three phases.
The first phase of the Nairobi-Malaba Railway starts from Nairobi South railway station and ends at Naivasha Railway Station, with a total length of 120 kilometers. After the completion of the first phase, it will ease the transportation pressure from Mombasa to the inland, create a lot of job opportunities for Kenya and help Kenya achieve greater development.
Up to now, 113 projects of CCCC have won the Luban Prize, including 27 overseas projects.
