On March 19, the opening ceremony of the Belgrade-Novi Sad railway, which is part of the international Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway built by CCCC was held in Novi Sad. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and a number of cabinet members of the Serbian government attended the ceremony.

 

Aleksandar Vucic said in his speech, today the most modernized railroad in Europe began to operate, which has not only greatly shortened the travel time between the two cities, but also realized the long-held dream of the Serbian people. It will further promote regional connectivity and economic and social development in Serbia. We thank our Chinese friends for their strong support and assistance.

Viktor Orban extended congratulations to the official opening of the Belgrade-Novi Sad railway and hoped that the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway would be fully opened to traffic as soon as possible. The Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway will not only bring the people of Hungary and Serbia closer together, but will also connect the eastern and western countries and help carry out cooperation with China,. It will also help connect Europe and China in economy.

The Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway is the flagship project of China-CEEC Cooperation and the first project to dovetail Chinese railroad technology and equipment with the technical specifications of EU railroads. The railway connects Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, and Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and is an electrified mixed railroad. The total length of the railroad is 341.7 kilometers, with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour, of which the Serbian section is 183 kilometers. The Belgrade-Novi Sad railway built by CCCC, which is opened to traffic this time, is 80 kilometers long.

After the opening of the Beno section of the Belgrade-Novi Sad railway, the running time between Belgrade and Novi Sad is shortened from 90 minutes to 30 minutes, and the quality and efficiency of transportation are greatly improved, which is of great significance to improve the passenger and cargo transportation capacity, facilitate the travel of people along the route, promote the development of tourism resources along the route, and create an international trade corridor between China and Europe.
