ECRL Project Breaks Ground Malaysian PM, State Councilor Wang Yong, SASAC Chairman Xiao Yaqing, CCCC Chairman Liu Qitao Attend Groundbreaking Ceremony

On August 9, the groundbreaking ceremony of East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) Project undertaken by CCCC was held in Kuantan, Malaysia. With a total contract value of some RM 55,000 million, the project is the most-concerned super project in Malaysia and Southeast Asia over the next few years, as well as the largest project under the "Belt and Road" initiative. Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Also present were Xiao Yaqing, Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC); Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming; Huang Huikang, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia; Su Quanli, Deputy Director-General of the National Railway Administration; Yuan Xingyong, Vice President of The Export-Import Bank of China; Liu Qitao, Chairman of CCCC and Sun Ziyu, Vice President of CCCC.


Since the signing of the project contract, CCCC has worked closely with related parties to initiate the project within less than one year, earning high recognition from both governments.


With a full length of 688 kilometers, ECRL Project stretches from Gombak in the north of Kuala Lumpur to Wakaf Bharu, Kelantan, and is an electrified railway built in accordance with China's national standards for first-class passenger & freight railways. The underline part will be constructed in accordance with Malaysian standards and other international standards; the online part will be constructed in accordance with Chinese standards. The project includes some 100 kilometers of elevated bridges and some 65 kilometers of tunnels, with a bridge & tunnel ratio of about 33 percent.
