Freight train with 75 carriages started to run
An exceptional length freight train with 75 carriages started to run on a daily basis from Mombasa Port’s Port Reitz Station to Nairobi railway station of the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway in Kenya from July 1.
The freight train offered by Afristar, which is owned by our subsidiary CRBC and operates the SGR, is to cater for the increased freight transportation demand of the Mombasa Port. The freight train departs from the Port Reitz Station at 3:30 a.m. to the Nairobi railway station at 12:30 p.m., carrying over 150 TEUs, 1.4 times the ordinary freight trains. As the SGR’s another highlight after its previous introduction of a double decker loading, the exceptional length freight train greatly eased the transportation pressure of the Mombasa Port and improved its transport efficiency.
