On June 23, at the fully automated container terminal for Phase 4 of Nansha Area of Guangzhou Port, the Intelligent Guided Vehicles (IGVs) took the containers from the gantry cranes at the container yard and headed to the shore in an orderly manner according to optimal route planned by the system; the automated quay cranes accurately grabbed the containers, hoisted and got them loaded on the board…It marks the fact that the first automated container terminal in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has successfully realized its whole process of automated operation for the first time.

As the contractor of the automated terminal system, ZPMC has incorporated advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data analysis, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and 5G in the project, well improving the overall loading and unloading efficiency of the terminal while greatly reducing the construction and operating costs. The terminal after completion is predicted to increase the port’s annual container handling capacity by 4.9 million TEUs.
