Lijiang-Yongsheng section of Huaping-Lijiang Highway came into service
Invested and built by CCCC, the Lijiang-Yongsheng section of Huaping-Lijiang Highway came into service on December 31 in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The Jin’an Jinshajiang Bridge, world’s largest span mountain suspension bridge also opened that day, slashing the one-hour detour time to cross the Jinsha River to only one minute via the bridge.
The construction of the bridge, an important part of the Huaping-Lijiang Expressway project, was made despite the technical difficulties inherent to the area’s high earthquake risk and high altitude. The main span of the bridge is 1,386 meters, and the vertical difference between the bridge surface and the river’s surface in the valley below is 335 meters.
The Lijiang-Yongsheng highway section, stretching 67 km, will shorten the travel time between the two areas from 3 hrs to less than 1hr. After the full line is opened to traffic, the Huaping-Lijiang Highway is expected to boost regional development in southwest China, benefiting 1.1 million people along the way.
