Ecological restoration reshapes the "pearl of the frontier"
At the end of April, Ulansuhai Nur Wetland in Bayannur, Inner Mongolia is bursting with vitality, showing the vibe of spring. The watershed restoration project of Ulansuhai Nur Lake, undertaken by the CCCC Third Highway Engineering Co., Ltd., restored the ecological elements of farmland, wetlands and lakes in an all-round way, reshaping the "pearl of the frontier".
The project team set up two operations in the lake, and used an enzyme remediation technique and an indigenous biological domestication technique to purify the sediment. Not only that, after considering the climatic and hydrological features, the project planted a variety of algae that have a higher purification effect, controlled submerged vegetation growth state through multiple plants competition relationships, as well as put local benthonic animals and filtering-feeding fish to accelerate the material circulation, creatingan efficient and self-purifying ecological environment.
Today, the overall water quality of Ulansuhai Nur Lake reaches Class V, and some areas meet Class IV standards. The new wetland area in the basin has increased by 100,000 mu. The improved water quality has attracted a large number of birds. About 6 million wild birds visit the wetlands each year to breed and the population of mute swans has increased from about 200 in 2000 to nearly 1,000 now. A resident around the region said excitedly: "This looks exactly like Ulansuhai Nur Lake when I was a child!"
